The objective of the Owatonna Youth Fastpitch Softball Association is to develop and promote a fastpitch softball program that will result in each player developing to the maximum of her/his ability while having fun. The program will attempt to achieve consistency in all levels through high school. The program will attempt to provide every youth in the Owatonna area with the opportunity to play organized fastpitch softball with players of comparable skill and interest.

The Owatonna Youth Fastpitch Softball Association (OYFSA) was founded in 1996 to improve upon the local softball program. It initially had only five teams in the age brackets of 18 & under, 16 & under and 14 & under. In 1997, three teams were added to the line-up and including the 12 & under age bracket. THE OYFSA now has about 80 young women on 6 teams in these 4 age groups that participate in the Southern Minny League. During the Summer of 2008, Owatonna will also play host to two fastpitch tournaments, the 13th Annual Husky Fastpitch Tournament June 28 - 29 and the U10 and U14 class 'B' state fastpitch tournaments July 18 - 20. Join us at the ball diamonds for some great summer fun!

The OYFSA is involved with several fundraising projects. These include the annual spring pancake breakfast at the VFW, and the annual spaghetti supper at the Elks in May. The Association also helps coordinate high school fastpitch fundraising projects. The OYFSA sponsors many events throughout the winter, spring and summer.

The OYFSA also sponsors the annual alumni game and OHS fastpitch banquet. We are also involved with Park & Rec's introduction to fastpitch program for younger players. The association is currently involved with organizing the annual Husky Fastpitch Tournament. This tournament usually includes teams from a 3-4 state area and has 4 age groups. We also typically coordinate a MSF State Tournament. The OYFSA has hosted the 10 & under Class "A" Tournament.

Improvements to the Manthey Park diamonds and the Morehouse Park diamond/batting cage renovation project were done with OYFSA involvement. The association was also involved with the temporary fencing projects for the Manthey Park and fairground's fields. Future OYFSA projects could include the addition of batting cages at Manthey Park and further renovation to the Morehouse Park facilities. Other future endeavors will include improving the Park & Rec program and possibly beginning a 10 & under traveling program.

The OYFSA currently has about 80 young women competing in 4 age groups, that participate in the Southern Minny League. The age classifications are 12 & under, 14 & under, 16 & under, and 18 & under. The player's age as of December 31 determines which league they are eligible to play in. The major sponsors for these teams are local fraternal organizations, whose support is greatly appreciated. These sponsors include the VFW, American Legion, Elks, Eagles, and the Knights of Columbus. Other local business contributions have had significant impact in our project successes. The OYFSA had their first national tournament participant in 2001 and are sending teams to the State A & B tournaments on a regular basis.
